Teams from Rochester Nordic Racing captured the top two spots in the NYSSRA Club Championship Relay. The team of Jason Hettenbaugh and Adam Swayze won the 3 x 3 km race today. Hettenbaugh led with a dominant classic leg, followed by Swayze putting in a mammoth classic effort in lap 2, and then, Hettenbaugh, despite racing in the morning’s biathlon as well, skied another leg, this time skating, to win the day for RNR. The other RNR team of Chad Day, Steve French and Marty Maynard finished with the silver medal. Team HURT captured the bronze with a great race from Martin Donnelly-Heg, Chris Yarsevich and David Kvam.
Team HURT captured the overall Club Championship Series and took home the coveted Club Championship Banner. David Kvam, suffering from illness most of the season but skiing an impressive anchor leg for their bronze medal relay team, won a NYSSRA record 3rd Club Championship Banner (David won as a member of Peru Nordic in 2007 and 2008 as well)

The NYSSRA Champions Cup race was held on Saturday at the Saratoga Biathlon Club with snowy, wet conditions. The grooming crew did an awesome job making sure the racers had a firm track for three laps over the shortened 6 km course.
Paul Allison won his second NY State championship with Jason Hettenbaugh and Chad Day joining him on the podium.
Kathy Schwenk added the 2010 State championship to her 2010 Masters National championship as she wrapped up a great season.
Austin Huneck and Ashley Forshey won the Junior championship races.

NY State Cross Country, Biathlon and Ski-O champions will be crowned this weekend at the Saratoga Biathlon Club in Day, NY. The Annual NYSSRA Champions Cup Weekend begins on Friday afternoon with the NYSSRA Ski-O championships. On Saturday morning, the NY State Biathlon Sprint Championships takes place. Saturday afternoon features the main event, the 21 km NYSSRA Champions Cup XC race. The winner of this race will be crowned NY State Nordic Skiing Champion and receive the coveted NYSSRA Champions Cup. On Sunday there is a Biathlon relay and NYSSRA’s clubs battle it out in the Club Championship Relay.
ONLINE REGISTRATION ENDS THURSDAY… REGISTER NOW!!!
Saturday night features the annual NYSSRA awards banquet. At the banquet skiers will be recognized for achievements over the course of the NYSSRA ski season. And, age-group point series champions will receive their prizes in the “quest for the vest.” Remember, to be eligible for end-of-the-season awards skiers must complete the Champions Cup race. Awards for the season are given to the male and female points series leaders in age classes J3 through M10. The Champions Cup race is a double points race. As of this post, there are 30 skiers registered, including powerhouse skiers from Rochester Nordic Racing, Glenville Hills Nordic, Peru Nordic Masters, Shenendehowa Nordic Club, Saratoga Biathlon, Paul Smiths College and Team HURT. Make sure you are a part of the action: Don’t Delay, register now!
Glenville Hills’ Eric Seyse looks to cement his overall points series championship and his third consecutive senior men’s title. But there are some interesting age-class battles brewing that will be settled on Saturday.
Last year’s NY State Champion, Kevin Sprague, is racing at Harvard University. That leaves a huge opening for the 2010 NY State Championship. Could the 2007 champ and tw0-time runner up, Paul Allison break through again and capture his second state title? Or, will a new champion emerge?
On Sunday, the Club Championship Series concludes with the Championship Relay. Team HURT has all but locked up the overall title, and has most likely won the Club Championship Banner, but bragging rights are on the line as the top dogs from Rochester Nordic Racing, Peru Nordic Masters and Saratoga Biathlon look to unseat the champs in the relay.

2. NYSSRA Nordic, Inc has a table at the GO VERTICAL For CYSTIC FIBROSIS Stair climb Health and Fitness expo. This event is a fundraiser for the Cystic Fibrosis foundation, and features a race up the Corning Tower in the Empire State Plaza in downtown Albany. One of the best treatments for those suffering with CF is to lead a healthy and active lifestyle, and we all know that xc skiing is one of the best ways to stay fit and active during the long Norther NY winter.
More information about this event, including registration and donations can be found at the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation website
The event is on Thursday evening, March 4, and NYSSRA Nordic needs a volunteer (or two) from the Albany area to hand out NYSSRA brochures and answer questions about Nordic skiing and racing at the Race Expo. If you are interested in volunteering, contact Jim Kobak.

Eric Seyse remains the top dog on the NYSSRA leader board after winning the inaugural Tri-HURT-Athon race in Queensbury on Sunday. In spite of marginal snow conditions, Team HURT managed to pull off a great race, featuring a 1.5 km Classic prologue sprint, followed by an 11.5 km freestyle pursuit. Seyse finished just behind Martin Donnelly-Heg in the sprint, but charged to victory in the pursuit. Austin Huneck, sitting third in the NYSSRA red group, won the junior race, and finished in an impressive 4th place overall. The Tri-HURT-athon was the last NYSSRA points race before the NYSSRA championship race on Saturday, February 27. This weekend’s Empire State Games are not scored in the NYSSRA points series.
POINTS SERIES
Team HURT has all but wrapped up the Club Championship Series with a monster showing at their home race. HURT is comfortably ahead of Peru Nordic Masters and NYSEF, who look to battle for second overall at the NYSSRA champs. The Championship weekend also features the Club Championship Relay, this 3 x 3 km relay (classic- free- free) will allow NYSSRA clubs to duke it out head-to-head. Be sure to register a team for the Club Championship Relay.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES
Remember, the NYSSRA points series and Club Championship Series both wrap up at the NYSSRA Championship weekend hosted by the Saratoga Biathlon Club in Day, NY. Age class award winners must finish the 21 km champions cup race in order to be eligible for prizes. Register now!

Due to poor snow conditions the Tri-HURT-athon has been forced to change the format and location of their ski race. The race will no longer be in Chestertown, NY but has moved to the trail system behind the Queensbury Elementary School in Queensbury, NY. The race will feature a 1.5K classic sprint prologue at 10am on the fields surrounding the campus. There is enough snow there to set a classic track. That sprint will seed racers for a 10K SKATE RACE in the wooded trails at 12pm. Unfortunately it will no longer be a pursuit race as we will be unable to set a quality classic track in the woods. There will be a (1.5k/3.0k) race for the BKYSL skiers. The BKYSL event will have 0.5k lollipop race, 1.5k J6/J5 and a 3k J4/J3 and this race will be held on the 1.5K loop set in the field.
The first 50 registered competitors will receive a race performance moisture wick T-shirt. The Prologue and Skate Race cost $20 and the BKYSL race is $5. You will pay for the events on race day when you pick up your race bib. NON NYSSRA/NENSA are an additional $5 for insurance fees. If you are not on the online registration list provided by Ski-Reg you will be charged $25 dollars. Bib pickup and registration will close at 9:40 on race day.
